Centre wins thriller against rival Transylvania
On a rare Thursday night game, the Centre College field hockey team defeated visiting Transylvania 1-0 in overtime. Tonight's win is the fourth consecutive win for the Colonels. The Colonels are now 7-2 on the year.
The Colonels fired away on offense all night recording 22 shots, 15 of them being on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net during regulation play. On defense the Colonels continued their stellar play limiting Transylvania to only nine shots over the entire game. Finally, in the second minute of the sudden death overtime period the Colonels' struck goal gold. The game winner was scored by stand-out senior forward Teresa Johnstone (Louisville, Ky.). It was Johnstone's team leading 11 goal of the year. Johnstone was assisted on the goal by junior forward Rachel Watkins (Chicago, Ill.).
The Colonels return to action this Saturday, Sept. 27, on the road against conference opponent DePauw. The Colonels look to avenge the early season, 4-2, loss to the DePauw Tigers. |
