Field hockey falls on the road to Wooster
One day after winning its season-opener over Oberlin College, the Centre College field hockey team dropped its first match of the year, a 2-0 defeat to the College of Wooster, Sunday, August 30 in Wooster, Ohio.
The match was scoreless for much of the first half, but with 3:25 left to play in the opening period, Eileen Barrer gave the Fighting Scots a 1-0 advantage with an unassisted goal from the right side.
The score remained that way until just over halfway through the second period when Elizabeth Dwyer pushed the lead to 2-0 with the match's final goal off an assist from Briana Lynch.
Centre was out-shot by Wooster 10-6, but posted a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners. Freshman Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) suffered the loss in goal for the Colonels. Cowley made five saves on the day.
With the loss, the Colonels fall to 1-1 in the early going, while Wooster remains unbeaten and improves to 2-0. Centre will return to action Saturday, Sept. 6 with a home contest against Washington & Lee University. The match is set to start at 1 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
