After falling in overtime one night earlier, the Centre College field hockey team rebounded to defeat Hendrix College 3-0 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match Saturday, Oct. 31 at Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels, playing a match as part of Centre's Homecoming Weekend, improved to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the SCAC, while Hendrix falls to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in league action.
Freshman Sarah Jessee (Louisville, Ky.) opened the scoring hitting the back of the cage at the 27:03 mark in the first period off an assist from freshman Jessica McLean (St. Louis, Mo.) for a 1-0 lead.
Junior Cynthia Morse (Louisville, Ky.) added to the lead with an unassisted goal at the 15:45 mark in the first half, and freshman Maddie Cristofoli (Louisville, Ky.) finished the scoring with a goal at the 24:03 mark in the second half for the final 3-0 tally.
Centre out-shot the Warriors 10-5 and also held a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) earned the shutout victory in goal for the Colonels. Cowley stopped all three shots she faced on the night.
The win also marked the 50th career coaching win of Centre head coach Tom Hobbs, who has accomplished the feat in two stints combined at Centre.
The match also marks the regular-season finale for the Colonels. Centre will now prepare for the SCAC Tournament Nov. 6-8 in Conway, Ark.
