Kenyon out-lasts Centre field hockey team 1-0 in overtime
Playing its third match in four days, the Centre College field hockey team dropped a hard-fought decision 1-0 in overtime to Kenyon College, Sunday, Oct. 18 in Gambier, Ohio.
The Colonels, which have now dropped two straight matches for the first time this year, fall to 9-3 overall, while Kenyon improves to 6-11 on the season.
The two teams battled through two scoreless regulation periods with Centre out-shooting Kenyon 10-7 in the first half and 10-4 in the second half.
The Colonels had a 14-13 edge in penalty corners in regulation, but the Ladies out-shot Centre 4-0 in overtime and had the only penalty corner by either team.
Just under eight and a half minutes into the extra period, Sarah McNee scored the game-winner for Kenyon to give the Ladies their sixth win of the year.
For the match, Centre held a 20-15 edge in shots and tied the Ladies with 14 penalty corners, but were unable to find the back of the cage. Sophomore Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) was the tough-luck loser in goal for the Colonels. Cowley stopped three shots on the day.
Centre will return to action Thursday, Oct. 22 with a road contest against Bellarmine University. Start time is set for 6 p.m. in Louisville, Ky.
