Oberst named SCAC's Defensive Player of the Week
Following a pair of shutout victories to open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play, Centre College sophomore Leah Oberst (Louisville, Ky.) has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Monday, Sept. 7 through Sunday, Sept. 13.
Oberst played two superb matches for the Colonels in consecutive shutout wins against DePauw University and Sewanee-University of the South.
Oberst and the Colonels limited both opponents to 12 combined shots and controlled play throughout the majority of both matches.
The sophomore, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, has been a welcome addition for the Colonels with her game intelligence and strong defensive skills.
Oberst is the second Centre field hockey player in as many weeks to be honored by the SCAC. Junior Sarah Humphries (Baltimore, Md.) was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week last week. Centre will take a week off and then travel to Memphis, Tenn. to play Rhodes College Friday, Sept. 25. The SCAC match will start at 4:30 p.m. |
