Humphries selected for SCAC field hockey honor
After helping the Centre College field hockey team to a pair of overtime wins, junior Sarah Humphries (Baltimore, Md.) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for matches played Monday, Aug. 31 through Sunday, Sept. 6.
Humphries scored two goals and posted two assists in the Colonels come from behind win against a feisty Lindenwood University team and added two more quality shots in Centre's dramatic 4-3 victory over NCAA Division-II foe Bellarmine University to open the 2009 season.
Humphries, a back for Centre, notched all six points on penalty corners and drove the Colonels back from the brink of defeat against a very efficient Lindenwood attack on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Against Bellarmine, Humphries played a very solid defensive match helping Centre thwart several dangerous Bellarmine chances in regulation. Centre won both matches in overtime with game-winning goals by freshman Barbara Parks.
Centre will open SCAC play Friday, Sept. 11 against DePauw University. The match is set to start at 5 p.m. in Greencastle, Ind.
