Field hockey beats Transy for the second time this season with 6-1 win

The Centre field hockey team won big over Transylvania University for the second time this season. Centre faced Transylvania on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Danville, Ky. at Farris Stadium and came away with a 6-1 win.

Centre would not take long to score as senior Mary Kate Clodius (St. Louis, Mo.) found the back of the cage five minutes into the game. Freshman Barbara Parks (Chapel Hill, N.C.) would record the assist on the first goal.

The Colonels would score three minutes later to go up 2-0 on Transylvania when Cloudius connected with Sally Faulkner (Louisville, Ky.) to get the goal.

Transylvania would close out the first half with a goal of their own. Annie Dohelah would score for the Pioneers with 1:20 to go in the half to make the score 2-1.

Centre would take charge in the second half as they would score four goals. Freshman Sarah Jessee (Louisville, Ky.) would get the first goal of the second half on an assist from freshman Maddie Cristofoli (Louisville, Ky.) to put the Colonels up 3-1.

Junior Sarah Humphries (Baltimore, Md.) would score with 24 minutes to go in the game after receiving a pass from freshman Anna Fuller (Cincinnati, Ohio) to give Centre the 4-1 advantage.

Cristofoli would also record a goal for Centre as she was able to find the back of the cage with 19:22 to go on the clock. Freshman Jessica McLean (St. Louis, Mo.) would pick up the assist on Cristofoli's goal.

Centre would finish up the scoring with 15:17 to go in the game when Jessee passed to Clodius who would score her second goal and give the Colonels the 6-1 win.

The Colonels out shot the Pioneers 16 to one, as well as having the advantage in penalty corners 15 to two.

Next up for Centre is a match against Rhodes College on Friday Oct. 30 with the game starting at 7:00 p.m. The game will be part of the homecoming festivities.
