Centre football has 11 named to All-SCAC Team
One week after completing its 2006 campaign, the Centre College football team had 11 players named to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Football Team as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Senior wide receiver Adam Clark (Frankfort, Ky.) and junior linebacker Matt Johnson (Ashland, Ky.) were each named to the first team, while senior tackle Michael Beehan (Oak Ridge, Tenn.), senior running back Adam Blandford (Middletown, Ohio), junior defensive back Tyler Moody (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore punter Chris Zimmerman (Oxford, Ohio) were all named to the second team.
Also earning honorable mention status were senior defensive end Brian Dougherty (Hopkinsville, Ky.), sophomore linebacker Adam Hay (Cincinnati, Ohio), senior defensive tackle Tyler Smith (Louisville, Ky.), senior running back Jordan Tinnell (Louisville, Ky.) and senior defensive end Michael Tribble (Knoxville, Tenn.).
Clark, a 2005 SCAC Offensive Tri-Player-of-the-Year, battled injuries early in the season, but finished his senior year strong. Clark ended his career with 26 catches for 312 yards and three touchdowns. The senior wide receiver also carried the ball 20 times for another 115 yards and another touchdown. He finished his four-year career with 128 receptions for 1,769 yards, good for fifth in school history in both categories. Clark was also a second team selection as a sophomore. 
Johnson, a first team pick in 2005, finished second on the team and fourth in the conference in total tackles with 86, including 44 solo tackles and 42 assisted tackles. The junior linebacker also posted 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, three pass break-ups, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries on the season.
Blandford was also a second team member last year, and repeats the feat in 2006. The senior running back also battled injuries early in the year, but returned to finish second in the SCAC in rushing with 796 yards and eight touchdowns in only eight games. Blandford also caught 22 passes for 184 yards. He finished his career with 2,198 rushing yards, which put him fourth all-time in school history in that category.
Beehan entered the season as the lone returning starter on the offensive line for the Colonels. The senior tackle played consistent football the entire year and anchored an offensive line which improved each game.
Moody was also a second team pick in 2005 as a sophomore. The junior safety was third on the team and 18th in the SCAC in total tackles with 62. Moody had 36 solo tackles, 26 assisted tackles and also added 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles and a team-high five interceptions, which ranked him second in the SCAC.
Zimmerman averaged 38.6 yard per punt this season on 29 punts, including a 61-yarder. The sophomore punter missed part of the season due to injury, but returned to kick 11 punts inside the opponents 20-yard line.
Dougherty and Tribble each earned All-SCAC Honorable Mention status for the second consecutive year. Dougherty recorded a team-high 17.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. Tribble had 50 total tackles, including 3.0 for loss and one sack.
Smith, Tinnell and Hay were all first-time selections. Smith posted 39 total tackles, including 4.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in his final year. Tinnell carried the ball 18 for 76 yards and scored four touchdowns and Hay led the team and was third in the SCAC in tackles with 87, including 9.0 for loss and 3.0 sacks.
Centre finished the 2006 season with 5-5 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the SCAC, which put them in a tie for fifth in the final standings. |
