Colonels excited about recruiting class
After a solid 2005 season which saw the Centre College Colonels football team go 7-3, including 3-3 in SCAC conference play, the team is excited about the incoming freshmen that will join the team this fall for the 2006 season.
This class will bring needed depth to those positions that were vacated from last year's 22 seniors. One of the objectives that was met by the coaching staff was to recruit a talented group of offensive linemen to replace the eight seniors off of last year's team. They also managed to recruit an extremely athletic and skilled class of freshmen football players. This could be one of their better classes as far as total team speed.
Hopefully this year's recruiting class will contribute to the program's quest to win the SCAC Championship and secure a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Six different states are represented in this recruiting class. Nineteen of the 33 prospects will compete on the offensive side of the ball. Centre returns five starters on offense and seven on defense. Of the 12 starters returning this fall, six received all SCAC recognition, including the SCAC offensive player of the year. Centre expects to have 90 student-athletes report to preseason camp Saturday, August 12. Centre opens at home against Bluffton University, Saturday, September 2 and the Colonels open conference play Saturday, September 16 at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. |
