Centre football coaches earn promotions
Centre College head football coach Andy Frye has announced two coaches on his coaching staff have been promoted beginning the fall of 2006. Offensive coordinator Rick Fox has been named Associate Head Football Coach, while special teams coordinator Todd Frakes has been promoted to defensive coordinator.
Fox will begin his eighth year at Centre serving the college as both a football coach and as the school's strength and conditioning coach. Over the last seven years, the Naperville, Ill. native has tutored 42 all-conference players, including 13 first-team selections and two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Players-of-the-Year. The Colonels have also seen 34 offensive records broken or tied under his watch, including 18 in the last two years.
Frakes will enter his sixth year at his alma mater where he was standout safety for the Colonels. The Cincinnati, Ohio native will continue to work with the defensive backs as well as coordinate the entire defense in 2006. In the past five years Frakes, a former team captain as a player, has helped guide 12 defensive backs to all-conference recognition, including 2003 All-American defensive back John Ortega.
"We appreciate their commitment and service to our football program. With their new positions come even greater responsibility. These promotions will enhance our programs commitment in developing our players to be the best they can be on the playing fields and in our classrooms," Frye stated.
Centre College Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Chafin believes both promotions are well deserved and looks forward to working with both coaches in the future.
"I am very pleased that Head Coach Andy Frye and I are in full agreement on these promotions. Coach Fox is an excellent football mind and has a great rapport with the players. Coach Frakes was an excellent player for Centre and has had a great deal of success translating his knowledge to his positional players. Both of these men are fine individuals and I hope they stay with Centre Football for many years," Chafin said.
Centre finished the 2005 season with a 7-3 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the SCAC. The Colonels will begin its quest for an SCAC championship when preseason camp opens Saturday, August 12. Centre will open it's 2006 campaign Saturday, September 2, when they host Bluffton University at Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.
