Johnson named pre season All-American
Centre College junior linebacker Matt Johnson (Ashland, Ky.) has been named to the 2006 Football Gazette NCAA III Pre Season All-America Team. Johnson was an honorable mention selection at linebacker.

The junior defender led the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) in tackles a year ago. He led both Centre and the league in solo tackles with 66 and was fourth in the league with 46 assisted tackles for 112 total tackles. The first team all-SCAC pick also led the league with an 11.2 tackles per game average.
Johnson, a D3football.com 2005 All-South Region Team selection as a sophomore, also appeared in the national statistical rankings. His 66 solo tackles put him 18th in the country, while his 11.2 tackles per game were good enough for 30th in the nation.
The junior also moved into the Centre record book. His 66 solo tackles last year are the most ninth by a Colonel defender in school history.
Centre, which finished its 2005 season 7-3 overall and 3-3 in the SCAC, will open its 2006 season, Saturday, Sept. 2, when they host Bluffton University at 1:30 p.m. at Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.
