Colonels place 14 on SCAC All-Conference Football Team
After posting a 6-4 overall record and a 4-3 mark in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play, the Centre College football has placed 14 players on the 2007 SCAC All-Conference football team as voted exclusively by the leagues head coaches. 
The Colonels had two first team defense selections and the lone first team punter, along with two second team offense selections, three second team defense picks and a second team kicker. Centre also had five players earn honorable mention honors, including three on defense and two on offense.
Senior safety Tyler Moody (Cincinnati, Ohio), junior linebacker Adam Hay (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior punter Chris Zimmerman (Oxford, Ohio) were named to the All-SCAC 1st Team.
Hay led the Colonels defense with an incredible 138 tackles including 14.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks, and one fumble recovery. His 138 tackles ranked him fifth in the nation for total tackles and his 79 solo tackles ranked him fourth nation wide. Hay's 138 tackles are also the second highest single-season total in SCAC history. In conference play, Hay posted 98 tackles, including 61 solo tackles, with a 13.6 tackles per game average to rank first in the SCAC
in total tackles, solo tackles, and tackles per game. Hay’s 10 tackles for loss placed him third in the SCAC.
Moody was also a force for the Colonel defense tallying 78 tackles, a team leading three sacks, three interceptions, and one fumble recovery. The senior safety was fifth in the country in forced fumbles per game averaging 0.4 per contest. In SCAC action Moody was first in the league in forced fumbles with two, and sixth in passes defended and interceptions with six break-ups and three interceptions. He was also fifth in total tackles with 59 in conference play. Moody has been selected to participate in the Aztec Bowl in December, which matches the to Division III players in the country against the Mexican All-Stars.
Zimmerman led the SCAC in every major punting statistic this fall. He kicked 61 punts for a total of 2,433 yards, averaging 39.9 yards per punt. Zimmerman also booted the longest punt in the 2007 SCAC season with a 59 yard boot. His season long, however, was a 69 yard kick against Birmingham Southern College.
Junior offensive lineman Brian Coxon (Louisville, Ky.), senior offensive lineman Thomas Gregory (Dayton, Ohio) and senior kicker Jason Chadwick (Harrodsburg, Ky.) were named to the 2007 All-SCAC 2nd Team Offense.
Lineman Coxon and Gregory helped the Colonels amass 900 rushing yards this season and provided great stability on the offensive line.
Chadwick, the Colonels place kicker, was third in the conference in field goals made with 9-9 kicking for the season. Chadwick was also 22-23 PAT this season and had a season long 44-yard field goal against Maryville College. The senior kicker led the Colonels with 49 points this season, including 32 points in conference play which placed him fourth in the conference in points for a kicker.
Senior linebacker Matt Johnson (Ashland, Ky.) and senior corner back John Perin (Cincinnati, Ohio), as well as sophomore cornerback Zack Sloan (Lebanon, Ind.) were named 2007 All-SCAC 2nd Team Defense.
Johnson was second on the team 81 tackles and third in the SCAC with a 9.7 tackle per game average in conference play. The senior defender, who played through injury at the end of the season, ended his career with 184 solo tackles to rank him fifth in school history. He also had 153 career assisted tackles, good for sixth in school history and 337 total tackles, which is the 16th highest total in SCAC history.
Perin ranked sixth on the team in total tackles with 37 this season. He also posted 11 pass break ups, tied for first in the SCAC and defended 11 passes to rank sixth in the league. As a senior defensive back, the four-year starter aided the Colonels defense with his leadership and strong play.
Sloan was first in the SCAC in passes defended with eight break-ups while his team-leading eight interceptions was also good for first in the conference. Sloan was named SCAC Football Defensive Player of the week for games played on Nov. 10 after a 13 tackle, two interception, three pass break-up performance against Colorado College. The sophomore defender also added a 90-yard kick-off return for a touchdown in the game. For his effort, Sloan was named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week and Football Gazette Team of the Week.
Senior linebacker Tyler Boron (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.), senior offensive lineman Chad Riney (Prospect, Ky.), senior defensive lineman Clark Norris (Ashland, Ky.) junior wide receiver Tyler Hinkel (Lexington, Ky.) and junior safety Alex Ubelhart (Louisville, Ky.) were each named to the 2007 All-SCAC Honorable Mention Team.
Centre finished its 2007 season tied for fourth in the league, marking the first winning season for the Colonels since 2005 and the first winning season in conference play since 2003.
