Football News Centre's Hay picks up two weekly awards Off to one of the best starts by a linebacker in school history, Centre College junior football player Adam Hay (Cincinnati, Ohio) is being noticed. Hay was named to the D3football Team of the Week and one of Football Gazette's National Players of the Week for games played Saturday, Sept. 22. The junior defender posted a career-high 25 tackles, including 12 solo and 13 assists, in helping the Colonels defeat Austin College 21-14 for their first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) win of the season. Hay also posted two tackles for loss and recovered a fumble in his second game of the season with 20 or more tackles. He also made 20 tackles in the first game of the year, a 14-9 win over Bluffton University.
Hay not only leads the SCAC in total tackles through four games but also the entire country. He is currently tied with Claremont-Mudd-Scripts' Ashton Clarke with 17.5 tackles per game.
Along with leading the nation in total tackles, Hay is 10th in solo tackles with 8.3 per game and 27th in the country in tackles for loss with 2.3 per game. Following his 20-tackle performance against Bluffton, the junior linebacker was named to the D3football Team of the Week and was also named the SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Centre, now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in league play, returns to action Saturday, Sept. 29 to host Sewanee-The University of the South in an SCAC contest in Danville, Ky. The game will be played as part of Centre's Family Weekend and is set to start at 1:30 p.m. at Farris Stadium. |
