D3football.com picks Sloan for Team of the Week
One day after being named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Football Defensive Player of the Week, Centre College sophomore cornerback Zack Sloan (Lebanon, Ind.) earned another honor, being named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for games played Saturday, Nov. 10.
Sloan had a monster day in the Colonels win over Colorado College. He posted a career and game-high 13 tackles, including 10 solo and three assisted, intercepted two passes and broke-up three more, while adding a 90-yard kick-off return for a touchdown to open the second half.
Sloan's first interception came in the first quarter. After Colorado recovered a fumble on their own end of the field, and drove to its own 39-yard line, Sloan intercepted a third and 10 pass attempt and returned it to the Tiger's 31-yard line. One play later, the Colonels scored to tie the game at seven.
On Colorado's very next drive, Sloan picked off his second pass of the game halting another Colorado drive. He just missed on another pair of interceptions later in the game and then opened the second half by returning the kick-off 90 yards to extend Centre's lead to 31-14.
For the season, Sloan has posted 59 tackles to go along with eight interceptions, which is good for the third highest single-season total in school history, and eight pass break-ups.
Sloan is the second Centre football player to be named to the Team of the Week. Junior linebacker Adam Hay (Cincinnati, Ohio) was recognized twice this season by D3football.com. Sloan was also named to the Team of the Week during the 2006 season, his freshman year.
Centre ended its season with a 6-4 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the league. It's the first winning season for the Colonels since 2005 and the first winning season in conference play since 2003.
