After finishing the season with a 7-2 overall record and a 4-2 record in the SCAC the Centre football team had 15 players named to the 2009 All-SCAC Football Team.

The Colonels had two players who received 2009 All-SCAC First Team Offense honors. Sophomore lineman Ben Hume (Lexington, Ky.) picked up the award after finishing the season as one of the league's top offensive lineman by helping the Centre offense rush for 1,421 yards as well as picking up 2,032 yards in the passing game for the year.

Sophomore running back Jonathan Pinque (Athens, Ala.) was also named to the All-SCAC First Team Offense. Pinque led the conference in rushing yards (886), was sixth in total offense (886 yards), fourth in scoring (60 points), second in scoring with 7.5 points per game, and third in all purpose (142.1 yards per game).

Centre had four players on the 2009 All-SCAC First Team Defense. Senior defensive end Tim Groh (Lebanon, Ohio) was named to the team after being 10th in the conference in sacks (4) and eighth in tackles for a loss (8.5). Groh had 39 total tackles on the season.

Senior linebacker Brian Sneed (Hendersonville, Tenn.) made the team. The senior defender posted six tackles for a loss, one interception, two pass break-ups, and three passes defended. Sneed was third in the conference in tackles (64) and fourth in fumbles recovered (2).

Senior cornerback Zack Sloan (Lebanon, Ind.) picked up the honor after being tied for first in the SCAC in passes defended (11) and being tied for seventh in interceptions (2). Sloan had 33 tackles for the Colonels and nine pass break-ups.

Senior Sean Swallen (Cincinnati, Ohio) was also named to the All-SCAC First Team Defense. Swallen was 19th in the conference in tackles (49), tied for 10th in passes defended (5), and tied for second in interceptions (3). He also had one tackle for a loss.

The Colonels had two players named to the 2009 All-SCAC Second Team Offense. Junior center Dane Spoelker (Louisville, Ky.) was a major asset to the offense. Spoelker had a grade of 94 in every game. He played a part in helping Pinque become the number one rusher in the conference. Centre picked up 191 first downs, scored 214 points, and had a total of 3453 offensive yards during the season.

Senior wide receiver Nick Edwards (Flemingsburg, Ky.) ended the season fifth in the conference in receptions per game (4.1), second in receiving yards per game (71.8), and tenth in scoring (7 touchdowns). He also led the team in receiving with 646 yards.

In addition, Centre had two players named to the 2009 All-SCAC Second Team Defense. Senior defensive tackle Graham Herron (Hendersonville, Ky.) was tied for 17th in the conference in sacks (2.5). Herron had 32 tackles for Centre, 3.5 tackles for a loss, and had one forced fumble.

Senior punter Jeff Collett (Paintsville, Ky.) was fourth in the SCAC in punting averaging 37.5 yards per kick. Collett had 24 total punts for 901 yards and none of them were blocked.

Centre had four players named 2009 All-SCAC Honorable Mention. Senior offensive lineman Dan Fox (Deltona, Fla.) helped the Centre offense average 157.9 rushing yards per game, as well as 225.8 average passing yards per game.

Junior defensive lineman Kevin Harman (Lenoir City, Tenn.) was seventh in the conference in sacks (5.5). Harman had 26 tackles on the season with 6.5 of those being for a loss and he also had one safety.

Senior defensive back Matt Mazzanti (Roswell, Ga.) was 26th in the conference and third on the team in tackles (45). Mazzanti had 2.5 tackles for a loss, one interception, three pass break-ups, four passes defended, and one fumble recovery.

Sophomore defensive end Cooper McGuire (Danville, Ky.) had seven sacks on the season, which was good enough for second in the conference. McGuire was 15th in the SCAC in tackles for a loss (7.5) and third in fumbles forced (3).

Senior wide receiver Kyle Saylor (Louisville, Ky.) caught nine passes for 98 yards and one touchdown. Saylor averaged 12.2 yards per game.
