Senior Nick Edwards (Flemingsburg, Ky.) was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which was formerly known as the Draddy Trophy.

Edwards, a 6'0", 182 pounds wide receiver leads Centre and ranks fifth in the SCAC averaging 62.5 yards receiving per game. In Centre's four games this season, Edwards has caught 16 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns. Edwards ranks second in the conference with his four receiving touchdowns.

The Campbell Trophy is awarded by the National Football Foundation and is the foundation's top scholar-athlete award. In order for a nominee to be considered for the award a player must maintain at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The player must also have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor, and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship skills.

The NFF Awards Committee will select and announce up to 15 finalists on Oct. 29. Finalists will be recognized as part of the 2009 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, receiving an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship. The Campbell Trophy winner will have his scholarship increased to $25,000 and will be announced live on Tuesday, December 8 in New York City at the National Football Foundation's Annual Award Dinner.

Centre's next match will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3 against conference opponent Sewanee. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.
