The Centre football team picked up their first loss of the season as they were held scoreless, to Millsaps College, 24-0, on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Jackson, Miss. Centre moved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the SCAC.

Millsaps opened up the game with the ball and was able to drive down the field to set up a field goal attempt from 47 yards away. The Major's would miss the attempt and Centre would take over and attempt to be the first team to score.

Centre was unable to score on their first drive and had to send out the punting unit. The first quarter would continue to go back and forth as neither team would be able to put points on the board.

Millsaps would start the second quarter with the ball on their own five yard line. The Majors would go up 7-0 on Centre after quarterback Chris Graves completed a three yard pass to Tye Menist.

The Majors would go up 14-0 later in the second quarter after Graves completed a pass to Shane Bowser for 42 yards. Millsaps would go into the half with the two touchdown lead.

Centre began the third quarter with a 50 yard kick-off return to start their drive at the Millsaps 44 yard line. On the third play of the second half senior quarterback Grant Conliffe (Louisville, Ky.) threw an interception.

Millsaps would go 55 yards on 11 plays to take the 21-0 lead for their only points in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Millsaps would get a field goal late in the quarter to complete their scoring as they would win the game 24-0.

Centre had 206 total offensive yards, while Millsaps had 338 total offensive yards . In the running game Centre only had 65 yards compared to Millsaps 122 yards. Centre would have 141 yards in passing, as the Majors would record 216 yards.

Sophomore Jonathan Pinque (Athens, Ala.) led Centre in rushing and receiving. Pinque would run for 50 yards on 15 carries and would pick up 48 yards on five receptions from Conliffe. Junior Rob Pope (Atlanta, Ga.) would have 31 yards on two pass completions from Conliffe.

Senior Brian Sneed (Hendersonville, Tenn.) led the Colonel defense with 10 tackles, seven of those being solo tackles and two were for a loss of 17 yards. Senior Sean Swallen (Mason, Ohio) had nine tackles on the afternoon, five of which were solo.

Centre's turnover streak of having at least one turnover a game came to an end as they were unable to have an interception or recover a fumble against Millsaps. The streak came to an end at 49 straight games and 127 turnovers. Centre was able to rack up 74 interceptions and 53 fumbles during the 49 game streak.

Centre will look to get back in the win column on Saturday, Oct. 31 as they host Rhodes College. Kick-off will take place at 2:30. The game will be part of the homecoming festivities for Centre.
