After helping the Centre College football team remain unbeaten in a 14-13 road win over Birmingham Southern, sophomore Cooper McGuire (Lexington, Ky.) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's (SCAC) Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, Oct. 10.

McGuire tallied seven tackles (four solo) including 2.5 for loss and also forced a fumble and added a sack. The sophomore defender helped lead a defense that limited the Panthers to just 56 rushing yards and 174 total yards on the afternoon.

Through six games, he currently ranks third on the team in tackles with 24, including 5.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles and a safety.

The Colonels, currently 6-0 and 3-0 in SCAC play, own the third longest active winning streak in Division III at 10 games dating back to last season. Centre has a bye week this week and will then travel to Jackson, Miss., Saturday, Oct. 24 to play Millsaps College.
