Osterman, Sneed earn SCAC weekly honors
Following a 34-20 season-opening road win over Hanover College, Centre College football players Tyler Osterman (Monroe, Ohio) and Brian Sneed (Hendersonville, Tenn.) have been named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games played Saturday, Sept. 5.
Osterman, a 6'1", 194-pound sophomore quarterback was named the SCAC Offensive Players-of-the-Week after he completed 29-of-43 passes for 324 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 104 yards on 19 carries (5.5 avg.) and averaged 38.5 yards per punt on two punts pinning Hanover insides its 20-yard line both times in a 34-20 win.
Sneed, a 6'0", 195-pound senior linebacker was named the SCAC Player-of-the-Week. Sneed had a monster day in Centre’s 34-20 win over Hanover (Ind.) as he posted a game-high 14 tackles, including nine solo and five assisted, while also recovering a fumble for a touchdown in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Osterman and Sneed both earned player-of-the-week honors once each last year, and they are the first selections this year. Centre had six different players earn weekly conference accolades during the 2008 season.
The Colonels will host Maryville College, Saturday, Sept. 12 in their home opener. The non-conference game is set to kick-off at 7:30 p.m. at Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.
