Men's golf cracks top 30
The NCAA Golf Rankings have been released with the Centre College Men's Team ranked 29 in the nation. This is the first time in the modern era of Centre College golf that a team has been ranked in the top 30.
Centre started the season ranked 137th in the country but after an impressive showing at the Jekyll Island Golf Invitational the Centre College men's golf team has been given its highest ranking in recent history. Centre earned this ranking by competing against, and beating, some of the best competition in the country. Some of their big wins came against top ten ranked Emory University, 21ranked Otterbein College, and 22 ranked Allegheny College .
Centre competes in one of the toughest division III conferences in the country, the SCAC (Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference). Besides Centre's current ranking of 29, there are three other schools in the SCAC that have received a top 50 ranking. These are Oglethorpe, at number seven, Rhodes College at eight, and DePauw University at 45.
Coach Brian Chafin expressed his satisfaction with the new ranking by saying, "This is a great step towards our ultimate goal of a conference championship and an NCAA invitational to Nationals. It is a wonderful feeling to receive recognition from the NCAA for all the hard work our team has put in over the years to become a quality NCAA Division III program."
Chafin added, "Although this recognition is a tremendous honor and we have obviously taken a giant step in the right direction, we still have a lot of work to do in order to see all of our goals accomplished."
