Centre golf makes big noise at Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic
The Centre Men's Golf team surprised the 24 team field at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic as they finished sixth in the three day tournament. All five teams that finished ahead of the Colonels participated in the 2006 NCAA Championship as did many teams that finished behind them.
"This was definitely a team effort with everyone contributing to the great three day total” (Coach Chafin). “Shooting a score of 300 was our goal and we were able to achieve that on our last day of competition.”
The Colonels were lead by Co-Captain Rus Whalen with a team low of 71 on the second day of competition and a three day total of 223. The four other scorers were Tyler Current (226), Tyler Griffith (235), Mike Janok (235) and Derek Tingle (237). The Colonels next action is at the EKU Spring Classic March 30-31 which features most of the OVC teams as well as many other Division I programs.
