Men's golf fourth at Rhodes Fall Classic

One day after playing Rhodes College in a dual match, the Centre College men's golf team traveled to the Tunica National Golf Course in Tunica, Miss., to participate in the Rhodes College Men's Fall Classic, Sunday and Monday, Sept. 17-18. The Colonels finished fourth out of 10 schools with a team score of 640 for the two-day event.

Emory University and Oglethorpe University tied for the team title with a score of 604, 28 over par on the par 72, 7,155-yard course. Rhodes College finished third with a score of 619.

Sophomore Tyler Griffith (Marengo, Ind.) was the top finisher for Centre with a two-day score of 153 (77-76) to place eighth out of 61 competitors. Freshman Hunter Catron (Elizabethtown, Ky.) also placed in the top 20 with a 159 (84-75), good enough to tie for 19th place.

Freshman Tyler Current (Louisville, Ky.) and juniors Rus Whalen (Georgetown, Ky.) and Derek Tingle (Louisville, Ky.) rounded out the top five for Centre. Current shot a 160 (83-77) to tie for 22nd place. Whalen went 86-82 (168) to tie for 41st place and Tingle had a 90-84 (174) for 56th place.

"Beating SCAC foes Millsaps, Sewanee and Hendrix was certainly a good result for us. We are looking forward to continued improvement in our upcoming matches," Centre Coordinator of Golf, Brian Chafin said.

Centre will next participate in the Eastern Kentucky University Fall Classic, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23 at the Arlington Golf Club in Richmond, Ky.
