Two Centre golfers qualify for Kentucky Open
Centre College junior men's golf captains Rus Whalen (Georgetown, Ky.) and Derek Tingle (Louisville, Ky.) have qualified for the 2006 Kentucky Open Golf Tournament at Cherry Blossom Golf Club.
Whalen recorded a par 72 score while Tingle fired a three-under 69. Both golfers will play at the University Club in Lexington, Ky., Tuesday through Thursday, August 8-10.
"This is a fine achievement for these young men," Centre Coordinator of Golf Brian Chafin said. "They were competing against some of the best players in Kentucky, which included both former college players and current professionals."
The Colonels golf team will begin practice Monday, August 28, and open their fall season Thursday, Sept. 14, with the Centre Fall Invitational at the Danville Country Club, in Danville, Ky.
