Centre men capture third title in three tries
The fall has been a good one for the Centre College men's golf team as the Colonels won their third straight title in three tries, capturing the Anderson Fall Golf Invite played Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15-16 at the Anderson Country Club in Anderson, Ind.
The Colonels won the two-day event with a team score of 594 to finish 14 strokes ahead of DePauw University, which placed second with a score of 608. Manchester College rounded out the top three with a score of 625.
Centre was lead by junior Tyler Griffith (Marengo, Ind.) and freshman Chris Morris (Maysville, Ky.) The duo tied for first with a 145 after 18 holds with Griffith winning in a one-hole playoff to become the tournament's Medallist. Griffith shot 68-77, while Morris went 72-73.
Sophomore Tyler Current (Louisville, Ky.) tied for third place only three shots off the lead at 148 (73-75). Freshman Adam Mallory (Louisville, Ky.) was fifth with a 149 (74-75), followed by senior Derek Tingle (Louisville, Ky.) in sixth with a 150 (73-77).
Sophomore Chris Conkright (Owensboro, Ky.) tied for seventh with a 151 (75-76), while freshmen Gray Hunter (Ashland, Ky.) and Jack Compton (Tampa, Fla.) as well as sophomore Mike Janok (Louisville, Ky.) also placed in the top 20.
Hunter tied for 11th with a 153 (77-76) and Janok and Compton tied for 13th place with a 154. Janok shot 78-76, while Compton finished with a 79-75.
The Colonels will next participate in the Wittenberg College Invite, Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 22-23 at the Windy Knoll Golf Course.
