Colonel men place second in final fall event
Playing in its final event of the 2007 fall season, the Centre College men's golf team placed second overall out of three teams in a triangular match against Bellarmine University and Spalding University, Sunday, Oct. 20, in Louisville, Ky.
The Colonels finished with a team score of 298 to place second behind Bellarmine, which won the one-day event with a score of 291. Spalding placed third overall.
Junior Tyler Griffith (Marengo, Ind.) paced Centre finishing only one stroke off the lead with a 70 (E). Sophomore Tyler Current (Louisville, Ky.) placed fourth overall with a 73 (+3). Senior Rus Whalen (Cynthiana, Ky.) was sixth with a 77 (+7).
Freshman Chris Morris (Maysville, Ky.) and senior Derek Tingle (Louisville, Ky.) rounded out the top five for the Colonels. Morris shot a 78 (+8) to tie for seventh place, while Tingle finished with an 81 (+11) to placed 10th.
Bellarmine's Kyle Leach won the individual title on the par 70, 6,400-yard course. Leach shot a 69 to finish one stroke ahead of teammate Doug Wilkinson and Griffith.
