Golf team competes against top 15
In a battle of the top 15 teams in the South at the Emory University Tournament, held at Stone Mountain, GA., the Centre College Colonels finished 12 of 15 teams.
The order of the finish was indicative of the national rankings with number one Methodist University winning the tournament; followed by Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) rival Oglethorpe University in second place. The power packed event had Rhodes College finish sixth, which the Colonels had defeated twice earlier this year, setting the stage for an SCAC battle at the championships in three weeks.
Leading the way for the Colonels was freshman Chris Morris who finished seventh out of the field of 81 with a two-day total of 148 (76-72). The next best scorer for Centre was Tyler Griffith at 160 (79-81), followed by Derek Tingle at 161 (82-79).
The Colonels, currently ranked 23 in Division III, will next be in action in the SCAC Championships April 25-27 at the Twin Bridges Golf Club in Danville, IN. The Championship is hosted by DePauw University.
