Men's Golf News

With both teams having strong fall seasons, the Centre College men's and women's golf programs are currently ranked in the latest Golfstat Division III Rankings released Wednesday, Oct. 3.

The men's team, which has won three of its six events, and has two other top three finishes is ranked 12th in the nation with a division record of 234-15. The Colonels have won the Transylvania Invite, the Jim English Invite and the Anderson Invite.

Along with the team success, three individuals have been Medallists in four of the six events. Freshman Chris Morris (Maysville, Ky.) has won twice, placing first in both the Manchester Fall Invitational and the Old Bridge Invitational.

Senior Derek Tingle (Louisville, Ky.) and junior Tyler Griffith (Marengo, Ind.) also have wins this fall. Tingle won the Transylvania Invite, while Griffith was the Medallist at the Anderson Invite.

Guiford College is currently ranked #1 with a 244-5 division record, followed by Methodist University in second (243-6) and Huntingdon College in third (241-8).

The Colonels are one of only three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) schools to be ranked in the top 15. Oglethorpe University is ranked sixth and Rhodes College is eighth.

The Centre women, which have also won three events this fall, are currently ranked 29th in the country with an 82-27 division record. The Colonels won the Jim English Invite, the Hanover Invite and the Transylvania Invite, while also placing second in two other events.

Sophomore Katie McKenna (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) has been Centre's top player this fall, winning three invites, including the Jim English Invite, the Hanover Invite and the Transylvania Invite.

Methodist University is ranked #1 with a 109-0 division record followed by Gustavus Adolphus College in second (108-1) and the University of St. Thomas in third (107-2).

Centre is one of four SCAC schools ranked in the top 30. Southwestern University and DePauw University are eighth and ninth while Rhodes is 21st.

The women's team has wrapped up its fall and will now prepare for its spring season, while the men's team will participate in the Otterbein Fall Invite Sunday and Monday, Oct. 14-15 and then close out the fall against Spalding and Bellarmine Saturday, Oct. 20.
