Morris leads men's golf team to second place finish
Freshman Chris Morris (Maysville, Ky.) earned his second straight win defeating Lindsey Wilson College's Carlos Navarro in a playoff, and the Centre College men's golf team finished second overall at the Old Bridge Fall Invitational, hosted by Centre, Saturday, Oct. 6, in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels finished the event with a team score of 280, a modern school record, to place only one stroke behind Lindsey Wilson (279) for the team title. Transylvania University rounded out the top three with a 285.
Morris, who previously won the Manchester Fall Invitational earlier in the week, shot a 66 (33-33) to tie Navarro (34-32) for first place. Morris then went on to defeat Navarro in a play off to be named the Invitational's Medallist.
Junior Tyler Griffith (Marengo, Ind.) earned all-tournament honors by placing fourth overall with a 69 (34-35) and freshman Jason Boldt (Winchester, Ky.) also placed in the top 10, tying for eighth place with a 71 (35-36).
Seniors Derek Tingle (Louisville, Ky.) and Rus Whalen (Cynthiana, Ky.), as well as junior Alex Zimmerman (Corydon, Ind.), sophomore Mike Janok (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Adam Mallory (Louisville, Ky.) all finished in the top 20 overall.
Tingle tied for 11th with a 72 (35-37). Whalen tied for 16th with a 73 (39-34) and Zimmerman (38-37), Janok (40-35) and Mallory (38-37) all tied for 19th with a 75.
The win by Morris, marks the fourth time in six tries a Centre men's golf has been the events Medallist. Along with Morris' two wins, Tingle won the Transylvania Invite and Griffith finished first at the Anderson Invite.
The Colonels will next take part in the Alumni Ryder Cup, Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Danville Country Club in Danville, Ky. |
