Men's Golf ends season with third place finish at conference
The centre college men's golf team ended their record setting season with a third place finish at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament. The tournament was hosted by DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. on April 25-27.
After day one of the tournament Centre was tied with Rhodes for fourth shooting 327 as a team. With
Chris Morris leading the way with a 79; followed closely by Derek Tingle and Rus Whalen who both shot an 81. Day two saw Centre maintain its fourth place standing with a two-day total of
642. Chris Morris and Rus Whalen continued to play well for the Colonels and shot 75 and 78 respectively.
The final day of competition started with Centre sitting behind Oglethorpe, Trinity, and DePauw. However, Centre was able reduce its overall team score for the third day in a row and shot
313 for a three day total of 955. The 955 moved them into third place behind Trinity and Oglethorpe.
For their efforts over the weekend Chris Morris and Rus Whalen were named to the All-SCAC First and Second Teams respectively. Morris finished the tournament shooting
79-75-78 (232), which placed him fourth overall. Whalen shot
81-78-79-238 which was good enough for tenth overall.
Coach Chafin stated, "I am very pleased with the results of both the Men's and Women's team last weekend. Both teams had a chance to move up one place on the last day but the competition in the SCAC is at the top of NCAA Division III in the country. These finishes are the best in schools history and the SCAC with the outlook for next year even better. I am very proud of our men and women who represented Centre so well this year"
