Men's Golf News

The Centre men's golf team is ranked 19th in the Golfstat standings released Wednesday, Oct. 14. The Colonels have won two of the four tournaments that they have participated in this season. Junior Chris Morris (Maysville, Ky.) is also ranked 11th in the division.

Centre won their first match of the 2009 fall season, which was the Jim-English - Centre Invite. The Invite was played at the Danville Country Club in Danville, Ky. on Thursday, Sept. 10. Morris led the Colonels with a third place finish recording a score of 72.

The Colonels then traveled to Lexington, Ky. to play in the Transylvania Fall Invite on Sept. 12, where the team finished second out of ten teams. The Invite was played at University Club Blue. Morris was Centre's top finisher again with another second place finish, which led him to a spot on the All-Tournament team.

In the third tournament of the 2009 fall season the Centre men’s golf team competed at the Rhodes Invitational in Tunica, Miss. The Colonels finished in ninth place out of 20 teams and the team was led by Morris, who finished tied for third place. In the three tournaments that Centre has competed in Morris averaged 72.2 strokes per round.

Centre then picked up their second first place finish of the season at the Old Bridge Fall Invite, hosted by Centre, on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Danville, Ky. The Colonels had four players finish in the top 10, with Morris tying for fourth, freshman Partick Davidson (Louisville, Ky.), sophomore John Hester (Louisville, Ky.), and freshman Will Herndon (Wilton, CT.) tied for eighth place.

"We are very pleased about this ranking since we have competed against more of the best D-III teams in the country. Our players have worked hard and must continue to do so if they want to stay in the upper echelon of D-III golf," Centre coordinator of golf Brian Chafin said.

The Centre men's golf team competes in their last tournament of the fall season at the Royle Lakes/Ogelthorpe Fall Invite on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19-20. The tournament will be played at the Royle Lakes Golf Club in Flowery Branch, Ga.
