Centre women place fourth at Rhodes Classic
In its final event of the fall, the Centre College women's golf team placed fourth out of seven teams at the Rhodes Collegiate Golf Classic, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 16-17 at Tunica National in Tunica, Miss.
The Colonels finished the two-day event with a team score of 747 (391-356). DePauw University took home the overall team title with a final score of 664 (353-311). The Tigers were followed by Oglethorpe University in second (701) and Allegheny College (710).
Centre did place ahead of two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schools, host Rhodes College (5th, 803) and Millsaps College (7th, 1138). Christian Brothers University placed sixth overall (864) to round out the field of seven.
Sophomore Jenny Jackson (Truckee, Calif.) paced Centre placing 14th overall with a 182 (95-87). Jackson was joined in the top 20 by freshman Marissa Cianchetti (St. Charles, Ill.) in 16th (188), junior Melanie Goff (Bowling Green, Ky. in 17th (189) and freshman Katie McKenna (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) tied for 18th (190).
Freshman Sarah Fisher (Vine Grove, Ky.) and Catlin Molnar (Brandenburg, Ky.) rounded out the field for Centre, placing tied for 23rd and 26th respectively. Fisher shot a 204, while Molnar finished with a 211.
DePauw's Sarah Gates was the overall individual winner out of 35 competitors. Gates shot a 155 (77-78) on the 5,813-yard par 72 course.
Centre will take the winter off and prepare for its 2007 spring season.
