Colonels place fourth in women's golf event

The Centre College women's golf team continued its 2006 fall golf season, participating in the Transylvania University Invitational, Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the University Club in Lexington, Ky. The Colonels placed fourth out of six total teams.

Centre finished the one-day event with a team score of 382, good for 94 over par. Lindsey Wilson College took home the team title with a 335 (+47), followed by Campbellsville University in second (363, +75) and Bellarmine University in third (377, +89).

Junior captain Melanie Goff (Bowling Green, Ky.) paced the Colonels finishing in a tie for seventh place out of 39 competitors. Goff shot an 89 (+17) on the par 72, 5,800-yard course.

Freshmen Katie McKenna (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) and Marissa Cianchetti (St. Charles, Ill.) were among three players to tie for 14th with a 92 (+20). Another freshman, Sarah Fisher (Vine Grove, Ky.), placed 29th overall with a 109 (+37) and freshman Caitlin Molner (Brandenburg, Ky.) rounded out the top five for Centre in 33rd with a 115 (+43).

The Colonels will return home to host a one-day event, Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Old Bridge Golf Course in Danville, Ky.
