Kentucky top golfers commit to Centre
Two of Kentucky's best senior high school golfers have committed to attend Centre College and play golf for the Centre College golf program. Emily Bachert from Greenwood high school in Bowling Green and Justin Wagner from Saint Xavier high school in Louisville have both officially committed to coordinator of golf Brian Chafin that they will be enrolling in the fall of 2008 to become student-athletes.
“Emily is a first class person, an outstanding student, and a phenomenal golfer,” said Chafin. “She has the potential to do very well in the SCAC and Division III, I will be very proud to call Emily a Centre College golfer,” added Chafin. Bachert has had an outstanding high school career; which was capped off this year with a fifth place finish in the Kentucky State High School Championships and a berth on the All-State Team.
“Justin Wagner is another one of the most recent Louisville golfers to enroll at Centre, He will add both depth and quality to our program,” stated Chafin. Chafin added, “I am pleased that Justin committed early so he can concentrate on his game without being concerned with which college he will attend.” Wagner played for perennial state power Saint Xavier and finished 29 in the Kentucky State Championships. “Justin is a good fit for Centre College, his goals and ideals will mesh well with our student body,” concluded Chafin.
Both golf teams are currently ranked in the NCAA, with the men at 14 and the women sitting at 33 in Division III. Centre will open its spring season with two tournaments in Georgia in mid-March and cap off the year with the SCAC Championship the last weekend of April.
