Women's golf team second at Franklin Invite
Coming off three wins in its last four events, the Centre College women's golf team finished second out of three schools at the Franklin Lady Grizzly Fall Invite Sunday and Monday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, at the Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin, Ind.
The Colonels finished with a two-day score of 730 (351-379) to finish 26 strokes behind the host, Franklin College, for first place. The Grizzlies finished with a team score of 704 (353-351). Manchester College placed third with an 828 (424-404).
Sophomore Katie McKenna (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) finished second overall with a score of 172 (84-88). Sophomore Sarah Fisher (Vine Grove, Ky.) and freshman Paige Burton (Frankfort, Ky.) also placed in the top five. Fisher was fourth with a 186 (89-97), while Burton tied for fifth with a 187 (86-101).
Sophomore Marissa Cianchetti (St. Charles, Ill.) finished tenth with a 190 (97-93). Junior Lindsay Maurer (Florence, Ky.) was 12th with a 200 (102-98) and senior Melanie Goff (Bowling Green, Ky.) came in 13th with a 201 (92-109).
For their efforts, McKenna, Burton and Fisher were each named to the All-Tournament Team. Franklin's Katie Tewell was the Invitational's Medallist finishing with a score of 148 (70-78) on the par 72, 5,855-yard course.
Centre will return home to host its second event of the fall in the Centre College Invite Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Old Bridge Golf Course in Danville, Ky. The Colonels won the Jim English Invite at the same course earlier this fall. |
