Centre women win second straight golf tournament
After winning the Jim English - Centre Invite less than a week ago, the Centre College women's golf team continued its winning ways, capturing the Hanover College Invitational by 22 strokes Sunday, Sept. 16 in Madison, Ind.
The Colonels shot a two-day score of 705 (367-338) to take the title. The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology was second with a 727 (379-348) followed by Transylvania University in third with a 744 (384-360).
Sophomore Katie McKenna (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) once again led the way winning her second tournament of the fall. McKenna shot a 166 (87-79) to tie for first place and then won the tournament in a one-hole play-off.
Freshman Paige Burton (Frankfort, Ky.), senior Melanie Goff (Bowling Green, Ky.), and sophomores Marissa Cianchetti (St. Charles, Ill.) and Sarah Fisher (Vine Grove, Ky.) all placed in the top 10.
Burton shot a 173 (88-85) to tie for fourth place. Goff shot a 182 (97-85) to tie for sixth place. Cianchetti shot a 184 (95-89) for eighth and Fisher tied for ninth with a 186 (97-89).
The Centre women will look to continue its winning ways, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22-23 at the DePauw University Invitational. The tournament will be played at Deer Creek. |
