Women's Golf News Women's golf team opens fall season with a win In its first competition of the 2007 fall season, the Centre College women's golf team placed three golfers in the top three on its way to winning the Jim English - Centre College Invitational, Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Old Bridge Golf Course in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels ended the day with a team score of 334 to finish 25 strokes ahead of Brescia University (359) and 37 strokes ahead of Transylvania University (371).
Sophomore Katie McKenna (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) was the Invite's medallist posting a 79 on the part 72, 5,890-yard course. McKenna was followed by senior Melanie Goff (Bowling Green, Ky.) in second and freshman Paige Burton (Frankfort, Ky.) in third. Goff shot an 82, while Burton finished one stroke behind with an 83.
Sophomore Marissa Cianchetti (St. Charles, Ill.) tied for eighth with a 90. Sophomore Sarah Fisher (Vine Grove, Ky.) finished with a 94 to place 11th and junior Lindsay Maurer (Florence, Ky.) placed 12th with a 96. The Centre women will next play at the Hanover College Invite, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15-16. The two day event will be played on both the Spring Hills Golf Course and Sunrise Golf Course. |
