Women golfers begin spring season strong
The Centre College women's golf team has begun their 2008 spring season with two strong starts and a top 35 national ranking.
The women began their spring season with a second place finish at the Piedmont Spring Invitational, this was a two day tournament taking place March 18-19 at
The Creek at Hard Labor State Park in Rutledge, GA. They posted a day one score of 358 and a day two score of 360 for a combined team score of 718. The team was led by Melanie Goff who shot 83 and 92 for a total score of 175.
Eleven-time defending NCAA Division-III national champion Methodist University won the seven team event.
On March 21-23 the team completed their spring break trip by competing in the prestigious Jekyll Island Invitational. The tournament featured 26 collegiate teams from NCAA Division III and NAIA. The team was able to finish in 17 place with three days scores of 359-366-364 for a team total of 1089. Again, Melanie Goff lead the team with a three day total of 260 and a daily average of 86.5.
The two strong performances over the week earned the team a national ranking of 34 in the country in NCAA Division III and a tenth place regional ranking.
Centre will next compete in the Hanover College Invite, Saturday, March 29. The Invite will be played at the Spring Hills Country Club in Hanover, IN. |
