Millsaps drops Hendrix 5-1 in softball action

The Millsaps College offense scored five runs on 11 hits and Kasey Thibod allowed only one unearned run on the mound to defeat Hendrix College 5-1 in game two of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament (SCAC).

After two and a half innings of scoreless softball, Millsaps (18-12) broke through in the bottom of the third as Jennifer McKinley drove in Tiffany Ladnier to give the Majors a 1-0 lead.

One inning later, Millsaps added to its lead. Jessica Crow and Amanda Berry led off the inning with a pair of singles. Following a ground out and a pop out, Katherine Nicholas hit a three-run home run to left center to push the lead to 4-0.

Hendrix (13-26) scored its lone run in the top of the fifth on a run-scoring single by McKinzie Fruchtl, but the Majors answered with a run in the sixth on it's way to a 5-1 win.

Thibod improve to 8-5 with the complete-game win tossing seven innings of seven-hit softball with four strikeouts and one walk. Jaclyn Herrera took the loss (5-17) for the Warriors allowing five runs on 11 hits, while striking out four.

Ladnier finished the day with three hits, while McKinley added two more. Three Warriors had two hits apiece, including Fruchtl, who drove in the lone Hendrix run.

Millsaps will return to action later today against Trinity University at 6 p.m., while Hendrix will play Austin College Saturday, April 26 at 10 a.m. in Danville, Ky.
