Millsaps moves to 2-0 in SCAC Tournament with 8-3 win over Trinity

Having defeated Hendrix College 5-1 earlier in the day the Millsaps College softball team returned to defeat Trinity University 8-3 in its second game of the 2008 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament (SCAC), Friday, April 25, at Millennium Park in Danville, Ky.

Trinity (19-18) struck first scoring all three of its runs in the first inning, two of them coming on errors, to jump out to an early 3-0 advantage.

After a scoreless second inning, Millsaps evened the game with three runs. The first run scored on a wild pitch, with the other two runs coming on a single and a double.

Two innings later, the Majors added another run in the fifth and then scored two runs apiece in both the sixth and seventh innings while holding the Tigers scoreless the final six frames.

Brittany McAllister tossed a complete-game to up her record to 5-5 on the season. McAllister allowed three unearned runs on four hits and struck out five. Kate Wright was tagged with the loss after allowing eight runs on 12 hits over seven innings. Her record falls to 12-1 on the year.

Sam Hill and Jennifer McKinley led the Majors at the plate tallying three hits each. McKinley drove in two and scored three more, while Hill scored two runs. Krista Prato Matthews had the only rbi for Trinity in a 1 for 3 effort.

Millsaps (19-12) will play DePauw University at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, while Trinity will meet Centre College at noon in Danville, Ky.
