DePauw earns 1-0 win in consolation match

With just over a minute left in the first half, DePauw University's Carolyn Mueller (St. Louis, Mo.) scored the lone goal of the match to give the Tigers a 1-0 win over Rhodes College in the consolation match of the 2008 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Field Hockey Tournament Sunday, Nov. 9 in Danville, Ky.

With the win, the top-seeded Tigers improve to 14-4 on the season, while the No. 3 seeded Lynx fall to 10-9 with the defeat.

The first half was evenly played with as DePauw held an slight 8-6 lead in shots. As the first wound down, Mueller hit the back of the cage with only 1:07 left to play in the opening period for the game-winner.

The Tigers ended the game with a 16-13 advantage in shots and a 10-5 lead in penalty corners. Sophomore Liz Attewell (St. Louis, Mo.) earned the shutout-win in goal for DePauw stopping six shots. Junior Valerie Clark (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) suffered the loss for Rhodes. Clark made three saves in the defeat.
