Centre sets school record for Spring SCAC Academic Honor Roll

SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced its Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll for the 2009 spring term and a new conference record of 1,029 student-athletes made the list including a new school record for Centre with 110. Since its inception in 1997, almost 14,700 male and female student-athletes have been recognized for their contributions in the classroom.

To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 for the term and be a regular member of a varsity athletic team in a sport sponsored by the conference.

The previous SCAC record for the spring was 948 set last year and the previous high for Centre was 95, also set last spring. Out of the 12 conference schools, only Trinity University (143) and Rhodes College (111) finished with more student-athletes on the honor roll than Centre, while Hendrix College also had 110 named to the honor roll.

The women's track and field team led the way with 16 student-athletes making the honor roll. The women's swimming and diving team had 15 members followed by men's track and field (13), baseball (11), women's basketball (10), men's golf (9), men's basketball, men's swimming and diving and women's tennis (8 each), softball and men's tennis (5 each) and women's golf (3)
