Centre men snap three-match losing skid

Winless in its previous four matches, the Centre College men's soccer team got back to its winning ways, defeating Austin College 3-2 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Friday, Nov. 3, in Danville, Ky.

With the win, The Colonels improve to 11-4-1 overall and 5-3 in the SCAC, while Austin falls to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in league action.

The Kangaroos struck first with Alex Dawson finding the back of the net with 30:45 on the clock. The score remained that way until senior David Horne (Louisville, Ky.) scored his sixth goal of the year off a corner kick from senior Derek Roberts (Knoxville, Tenn.) The assist was Roberts' seventh of the season.

Less than 10 minutes later, junior Matt Hoskins (Lexington, Ky.) netted his third goal of the season off an assist from freshman Patrick Hall (Indianapolis, Ind.). It was Hall's first collegiate assist of his career.

With Centre ahead 2-1 and only 10:55 left to play in the match, Dawson was credited with his second goal of the match on an own goal by Centre to tie the match at two apiece.

That score would not last long as senior Kevin Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) scored only 0:16 later for the game-winner. For Brown, it was his second goal of the year, with Roberts tallying his second assist of the match and his eighth of the season.

The 0:16 between goals is the fifth lowest time between scores in Division III history. The Colonels are now part of the fifth and seventh quickest back-to-back goals in NCAA Division III Men's Soccer history.

Centre out shot the Kangaroos 19-15 on the night with Austin finishing with a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Chris Creger (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) earned the win in goal for the Colonels stopping seven shots.

Centre will return to action Sunday, Nov. 5 for its final regular season match of the year. The Colonels will square off against Hendrix College in an SCAC match at 12 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
