Colonels win season-finale 2-1 over Hendrix

In its final regular season match of the year, the Centre College men's soccer team ended the season just as it started it, with a win, defeating Hendrix College 2-1 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match, Sunday, Nov. 5, in Danville, Ky.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 12-4-1 overall and 6-3 in the SCAC. The 2006 season marks the fifth consecutive season Centre has won 11 matches or more. Hendrix falls to 7-9 overall and 2-6-1 in league action.

With 6:35 remaining in the first half, freshman Richard Hinton (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) netted his second goal of the season off an assist from junior Matt Kowaleski (Springboro, Ohio), to give Centre a 1-0 lead at the half. The assist was Kowaleski's second of the year.

The score remained 1-0 until the 9:20 mark in the second half when Hinton found the back of the net again for his second goal of the match and third of the year. Senior Derek Roberts (Knoxville, Tenn.) notched his team-leading eighth assist of the year on the score.

Hendrix added a late goal when Matt Hancock scored off an assist from Nick Forsten with only 1:21 left to play, but that's all the Warriors could manage.

Centre out shot Hendrix 15-4 on the day and held a commanding 13-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Chris Creger (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) and freshman Aaron Arndt (Madisonville, Ky.) combined for the win in goal. Creger made two stops while Arndt added another in the win.
