Trinity outlasts Centre 1-0 in men's soccer
In a very physical and hard fought match between two nationally ranked teams, the Centre College men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Trinity University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match, Friday, Oct. 20 in San Antonio, Texas.
The match, which featured the top two teams in the SCAC, pitted Trinity, the #1 ranked team in the country against Centre, the #18 ranked team in the country. With the loss, the Colonels fall to 10-2-1 overall and 4-1 in the SCAC, while Trinity remains unbeaten at 14-0 overall and 5-0 in the league.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half. The Tigers out shot Centre 11-4 and had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks in the first 45 minutes, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
Only 1:49 into the second half, Trinity's Robert C'debaca was awarded a penatly kick. C'debaca nailed the kick for the match's lone goal to give Trinity the 1-0 win.
The Colonels were out shot 26-6 for the match and Trinity held a 9-1 lead in corner kicks. Junior Chris Creger (Mount Pleasant S.C.) suffered the loss in goal for Centre. Creger stopped six of the seven shots he faced.
Centre will return to action Sunday, Oct. 22, when they travel to Georgetown, Texas to play Southwestern University. The SCAC match will start at noon CST.
