Judah nets hat trick as Colonels win 5-0

Junior Nick Judah (Louisville, Ky.) recorded the first hat trick by a Centre College men's soccer player since the 2002 season as the Colonels rolled to a 5-0 win over Millsaps College, Sunday, Oct. 1, in Jackson, Miss.

Centre, which has now won four straight matches, improves to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, Millsaps remains winless at 0-9 overall and 0-4 in league play.

The match was close throughout the first half as the Colonels held a slight 4-3 edge in shots. Sophomore Chris Baumann (Louisville, Ky.) made one of those shots count, scoring his first goal of the season 17:30 into the first period. Senior David Horne (Louisville, Ky.) had the assist on the score.

The half would end with Centre ahead 1-0, but would not hold up long in the second half as freshman Richard Hinton (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) notched his first collegiate goal less than two minutes into the second frame.

With the Colonels ahead 2-0, Judah recorded his first goal with seven minutes left to play. The junior added his second three minutes later and then his final tally at the 88:30 mark. Senior Derek Roberts (Knoxville, Tenn.) assisted on Judah's second goal.

The last time a Centre player recorded a hat trick was September 20, 2002 when both Matt Walksler and Alex Marsden scored three goals each in an 11-0 win over Oglethorpe University. Judah has now scored seven goals on the season to lead the Colonels.

The Colonels finished the match with a 13-11 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Junior Chris Creger (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) earned third straight shutout win and seventh overall in goal for Centre. Creger made three saves in the win.

The Colonels will look to continue its early success in conference play when they host Sewanee-University of the South, Friday, Oct. 6. The SCAC contest will start at 7:30 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
