Men's soccer wins sixth straight
The Centre College men's soccer team continues to roll, winning its sixth straight match, a 2-1 decision over Oglethorpe University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match, Sunday, Oct. 8, in Danville, Ky.
The win ups the Colonels overall record to 9-1 and its SCAC record to 4-0, while Oglethorpe falls to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Centre did not waste much time getting on the scoreboard as junior Nick Judah (Louisville, Ky.) opened the scoring off an assist from senior David Horne (Louisville, Ky.) only 2:59 into the match. The goal was Judah's 11th of the season, while Horne registered his third assist of the year.
Oglethorpe answered later in the first period when Josh Rosendahl found the back of the net at the 20:47 mark to even the score at one apiece.
The score remained deadlocked until late in the second half. With less than six minutes to play, junior Brandon Gish (Owensboro, Ky.) scored the game-winner off a corner kick from junior Matt Kowaleski (Springboro, Ohio) to give Centre the 2-1 win. The score was Gish's third of the season and the assist was Kowaleski's first of the year.
Centre out shot the Stormy Petrals 12-8 for the match and held a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Chris Creger (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) earned the win in goal for the Colonels. Creger made four saves in the victory.
Centre will next travel to Terre Haute, Ind., Thursday, Oct. 12 to make up a match against Elmhurst College. The match, which was postponed due to inclement weather earlier in the season, will start at 1:30 p.m.
