Gish honored by SCAC
Centre College junior men's soccer player Brandon Gish (Owensboro, Ky.) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 8.
Gish only scored one goal, but it was the biggest goal of the weekend. The junior's goal gave Centre a 2-1 win over SCAC foe and regionally-ranked Oglethorpe University on Sunday, in Danville, Ky.
The game-winner allows Centre to keep pace with #1 ranked Trinity University atop the SCAC standings with a perfect 4-0 league mark.
The goal was Gish's third of the season and his second game-winner against a regionally-ranked opponent. His other game-winning goal came in a 1-0 win over Wisconsin-Whitewater earlier in the season.
Gish, who missed most of the 2005 season due to injury now has six total points on the season playing in all 11 matches, helping Centre to a 10-1 overall record. He is the fourth Centre player to be named player-of the week this season. Senior David Horne (Louisville, Ky.) and juniors Nick Judah (Louisville, Ky.) and Chris Creger (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) have also been recognized by the SCAC.
Centre will next travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to play Elmhurst College. The match is a make up match, which was postponed earlier in the season due to the weather. The non-conference match will begin at 2 p.m. on the campus of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
