Centre men rebound with 4-1 win over Wittenberg
Junior Nick Judah (Louisville, Ky.) scored two goals and senior David Horne (Louisville, Ky.) scored a goal and had an assist as the Centre College men's soccer team rebounded from its first loss of the season one day earlier to defeat Wittenberg University 4-1, Saturday, Sept. 16, in Wilmington, Ohio.
The match was played as part of the Kiwanis Classic, hosted by Wilmington. The Colonels improve to 4-1 with the win, while Wittenberg falls to 3-4-1 on the season.
Senior Scott Daughtridge (Atlanta, Ga.) opened the scoring for Centre, finding the back of the net 15:21 into the match off an assist from Horne for his first goal of the year.
Later in the first half, the Colonels struck again. Judah scored his first goal of the match off an assist from senior Derek Roberts (Knoxville, Tenn.). It was Roberts second assist in as many days and fourth assist of the season.
Only 1:04 into the second half, Wittenberg got on the scoreboard cutting the Colonels' lead in half with a goal off a penalty kick from Justin Jenkins.
With 77:00 on the clock, Horne gave Centre a two-goal lead once again, hitting a penalty kick for his second goal in as many days and his third of the year.
Judah then completed the scoring, hitting his fourth goal of the year. Sophomore Adam Boyer (Louisville, Ky.) notched his first assist of they year on the score.
The Colonels out shot Wittenberg 17-8 for the match and held an slight 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Chris Creger (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) earned the win in goal for Centre stopping three of the four shots he faced.
Centre will next play Friday, Sept. 22, when they return home to host Elmhurst College. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
