Colonels blank Mount St. Joseph 4-0
Having not played a match in almost two weeks, the layoff did not seem to hurt the Centre College men's soccer team, as it shutout the College of Mount St. Joseph 4-0, Wednesday, Sept. 27, in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels, which had to postpone their last two matches due to excessive rain, improve to 5-1 overall, while Mount St. Joseph falls to 0-5-1.
Junior Nick Judah (Louisville, Ky.) opened the scoring for the Colonels in the first half finding the back of the net with 33:28 left to play in the first period. Junior Ed Ohin (Louisville, Ky.) registered his first assist of the season on the score.
Less than four minutes later, senior Kevin Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) extended the lead, scoring the match's second goal off an assist from junior John Templeton (Chattanooga, Tenn.). It was Brown's first goal of the season.
Three minutes later Judah and Ohin hooked up again for another score. Judah tallied his second goal of the match and sixth of the season, while Ohin notched his second assist of the match and the year.
Junior Matt Kowaleski (Springboro, Ohio) scored the match's final goal, his second of the year, for the final 4-0 tally. Junior Matt Hoskins (Lexington, Ky.) had his first assist on the Kowaleski goal.
Centre controlled the entire match out shooting the Lions 20-1 and holding an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Chris Creger (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) earned the shutout victory in goal for the Colonels stopping the only shot he faced.
Centre will open its 2006 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference season, Friday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Memphis, Tenn. to take on the Rhodes College Lynx. The match is part of a men's/women's doubleheader and is set to begin at 4 p.m. CST.
