Men's soccer wins SCAC opener 1-0 over Rhodes
In its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match of the season, the Centre College men's soccer team defeated Rhodes College 1-0, Friday, Sept. 29, in Memphis, Tenn.
The Colonels have now won three straight to improve to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the SCAC, while Rhodes falls to 1-5-3 overall and 0-2-1 in league play.
After battling through a scoreless first half, senior David Horne (Louisville, Ky.) scored the game-winner at the 71:43 mark in the second period. It was Horne's fourth goal of the season.
Centre out shot the Lynx 14-6 on the day, including a 7-0 first half advantage. The two teams had three corner kicks each. Junior goalkeeper Chris Creger (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) recorded his fifth shutout of the season stopping three shots in the win.
The Colonels will next travel to Jackson, Miss. for an SCAC match against Millsaps College. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. CST.
